Mrs. Virginia P. Ashby Griffin, 91 of Cookeville TN, formerly of Hopkins County passed away at 12:53 A.M. on Monday, January 19, 2009 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville.

She was born June 10, 1917 in Hopkins County to the late Marshall S. Phillips and Martha “Callie” Browning Phillips. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Emmett Ashby, Sr. and Carl Griffin; one son, Daryl W. Ashby and one daughter, Martha Jane Hendricks; three brothers, Wayne Phillips, Dale Phillips, John Phillips; two sisters, Blanche Breedlove and Hazel Pidcock.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Robert Emmett Ashby, Jr. and Barbara of Hixson, TN and Walter Dwight Ashby and Maxine of Ringgold, GA; one brother, Walter B. Phillips of Sacramento, KY and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Ashby and Rev. Jeff Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Madisonville.

Friends may call from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 and after 9:00 A.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. --Dlbradley1 16:33, 19 January 2009 (EST)
