  • Augusta Co., VA Deed Book 29, page 245: "Martha Black, widow of John Black, deceased, of the county of Bourbon, State of Kentucky; Robert Black of Woodford County, Kentucky; Samuel Black and William Black of Bourbon County, Kentucky, heirs of the said John Black, deceased, appoint John Patrick of Augusta County, Virginia as their lawful attorney to sell two tracts of land in Augusta now in the possession of occupation on Nicholas Farhart. One tract of 200 acres bought of John Madison Nov. 19, 1771 and one tract of 54 acres granted to John Black by letters Patent March 16, 1771…. Recorded March 20, 1797."
  • Bourbon Co., KY Will Book C, page 98: Martha Black's will dated August 26, 1797. Heirs: William Black, son; Martha Black, granddaughter--daughter of son, Robert; Martha Patrick Black, granddaughter--daughter of son, Samuel.

The quoted sources indicate that John's wife was Martha PATRICK, which is supported by the fact that Samuel and Rosannah Black's daughter was named Martha Patrick Black. Also, that John and Martha had four sons--Robert, John, Samuel and William. John is mentioned in Robert Patrick's will, but not in John Black's will, which indicates that he was born before August 10, 1761 and MAY have died before May 22, 1795.
