Facts and Events
Margaret Kilpatrick Cunningham and her husband, Gen. Robert Cunningham, were banished from SC after the Rev. War for Robert's participation as a Loyalist Officer. Many Kilpartrick researchers name her Martha or Martha/Margaret but her name was Margaret.... there are no primary source records that give her the first name Martha as she is not named in her father's will whereas her husband, Robert Cunningham, is named in Charles Kilpatrick's will as well as in numerous deeds. Robert's uncle, William Cunningham Sr., married Margaret's sister Jean/Jane/Gennet Kilpatrick. The Cunningham family of Augusta County, Virginia (together with their Kilpatrick wives) removed to 96 District SC c1770 and can be found in deeds and numerous land transactions there. They became very powerful, influential landowners as well as Loyalist during the Rev. War. |
