Facts and Events
My notes of 24 August 2007 I do not have any PROOF that Martha is a daughter of William Faucette and Martha Hamilton Faucette. I originally had Martha as a daughter of George Faucett and an "unknown". That reasoning was based on the information below that was received from Holt Anderson: Information received from Holt Anderson: "I do not have copies of the original records cited but the “Abstracts of Vital Records from Raleigh, NC Newspapers 1820-1829” [RNC 929.375 News V.2] on page 19 has the following: 146 ANDERSON: M. In Orange county, on the 6th inst.. Mr. WILLIAM ANDERSON to Miss MARTHA FAUCETT. RRsw Tues 1 Nov 1825 3:5. / RRw Fri 4 Nov 1825 1:5. ….on the 6th ult…dau of Mr. GEO. FAUCETT. RaNCSw Fri 4 Nov 1825 3:5 MB (Marriage Bond). Orange Co. Patsy Fossett 25 Sept 1825 Hugh Crawford (w) J. Taylor, J.P. These newspaper accounts do not name the mother." I have changed Martha to be a daughter of William Faucett and Martha Hamilton Faucett based on the will of Martha Hamilton Faucett where she specifically mentions her grandson William James Anderson: 8th I five to my gran son Mr. Wm. James Anderson two hundred dollars out of the price of Celia if she brings it, if she don’t bring that amount said William J. Anderson is to have all the price of her to be his forever. If she brings over two hundred dollars what is over is to go the legates hereafter mentioned Codicil to this my last will & testament I revoke the gift of the sorrel colt to Joseph Hamilton & give & bequeath to him one hundred dollars but should he die or be killed in battle before the close of the war there I give the one hundred dollars to his afflicted sister Martha Hamilton. And I give bequeath to Josiah McCully the negro woman Celey upon his paying two hundred dollars to my gran son William James Anderson the one hundred dollars to Joseph Hamilton to Joseph Hamilton or if he dies or is killed to Martha Hamilton and one hundred dollars to John S. Faucett in full of the [?] given in the above will & I ratify and confirm my will in all these respects as witness my hand & seal this 7th Nov. 1862 She also specifically mentions William's daughter Martha Ellen Anderson in her will: 3rd I give and bequeath to my great gran daughter Martha E. Anderson one bed and sheet & coverlid one quilt pillows and slips I can not explain why the newspaper showed her as a daughter of George. IF she is not a daughter of William Faucett, she most certainly is a daughter of Martha Hamilton who married William Faucett.
