Martha “Mattie” Crumrine, b. 12 Aug. 1868 in Warren Co., Iowa m. 1 June 1892, William Austin Matson, b. 4 Aug. 1864, d. 1 June 1935 No children. Earl Smith, in his book "Mosher History and Genealogy" published in 1964, has this: "In Mattie's early years (from l7 to 23) she taught school. Having no children of their own they shared their home with six different neices, children of her sister Srah Chumbley, and sister Mary Roberts, also three of her brother Warren‘s family. She cared for her father and mother and brother Calvin when they were no longer able to care for themselves. William A. Matson graduated from Kansas Weslyn College, taught school, practiced law, ran a general store with M.D. Scott, a brother—in-law. Later he organized the Citizen's State Bank in Jewell, Kans. of which he was president until his death. She has been happy and come to believe that peace of mind and activity of helping others is our best medicine. She pays tribute to her mother and grandparents for her heritage and in her teaching her industry, economy and a Christian education. She is a student of the Bible.
