    Jaques' first wife was a daughter of Hendrick Matthyse Smack and Geertje Harmens Coerten. The latter was a daughter of Harmen Coerten, of Voorhuysen, in Guelderland, Holland. (N.Y.G.& B. Record, 1925, pp. 266, 267) Hendrick Matthyse Smack came to New Amsterdam in 1654 and died after June, 1708. He settled in New Utrecht, where he took the oath of allegiance in 1687. He was magistrate of the Town of New Utrecht in 1669, '73, '76, '79, '82, and '89. (ESKC, p. 264.)
