    ... Marmaduke Simms, son and heir of Anthony Simms and his first wife, was born about 1694, having in 1710 at sixteen years of age made choice of his step-mother as his guardian.

    ... His undated will was proved in Charles County on January 17, 1738/9.

    To son Anthony the plantation whereon Thomas Higdon now lives.
    To son Marmaduke “ New Design ” which I am settling.
    To son James the plantation whereon I now dwell.
    To three above named sons 50 acres in Zachia Swamp called “ Semmes’ Chance.”
    To cousin Ann Cooksey 50 acres of “ St. Georges ” already laid out, she paying 6 shillings.

    The widow was living as late as May, 1744, when she was cited by the court for the failure to file an account upon the estate of her deceased husband.

    On September 5, 1756, his two sons Marmaduke Simms and James Simms, of Charles County, and the widow of his son Anthony
    Simms, of Prince George’s County, sold to Charles Smoot, of Charles County, for 11,000 lbs. tob. “ Sims’ Chance ” lying on the east side of Zachia Swamp. No wives waived dower.
