Facts and Events
[edit] Rebekah's NotesAfter my grandfather, Paul Ashton, of Venedocia, retired from the Buckeye Pipeline Co., he worked for a few years at the local hardware store, Flat Lands Supply. Marla worked there and I distinctly remember my grandfather talking about her. He said that some customers were hesitant to work with her because she was a woman but they soon learned that she not only had a command of the store's inventory, but also what products the client needed for their project. My grandfather clearly liked, admired and respected Marla. Marla was also a member of his church, Salem Presbyterian, in Venedocia, and she played the piano and organ. There now stands a beautiful, black baby grand piano in the church that was donated in Marla's memory. I remember my grandparents, Paul and Violet, talking about Marla when she was fighting cancer and subsequently died. It grieved them deeply that this young woman, whom they loved and respected, was taken in the prime of her life. References
