Auburn Citizen Advertiser, 26 Apr 1965: TWO 3-YEAR OLD BOYS DROWN NEAR MOTTVILLE Two three-year-old boys drowned Sunday in an abandoned cellar excavation near Mottville, State Police report. Troopers identified the boys as Mark F. Staring, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Staring of Mottville and Francis W. Redden, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Redden of Centerport RD, Port Byron. The Staring boy was the Redden boy's uncle... The boys' bodies were found in the pit at 3 p.m. by Earl Staring, 17, brother of one of the victims... They said that the water was two to three feet deep and the pit wall about a foot high... Mark Staring is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl S. Staring; six brothers, Stanley E. of Weedsport, Harold M. of Jordan, David F., Earl S. Jr., Clarence C., and Raymond J. Staring, all at home; three sisters, Mrs. William J. Redden of Port Byron, Mrs. Peggie A. Juhl of Auburn, and Miss Faye Marie Staring at home; his maternal grandfather, Maturin Hutchinson of Altmar; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ida Staring of Altmar.
