Visited Helen & Marjorie Euren with Birdie Marjorie remembers seeing Digory in 24 Park Lane, Norwich when she was about 5 years old and staying with HFE & SHG. When she was small she often stayed with them and with FFE in London as Helen was premature and sickly.

She said SHG was very strict.. She asked Marjorie to say grace and Marjorie couldn't and so was sent to bed. Marjorie couldn't go and see SHG in her bedroom unless she was wearing a scarf. Once she was caught taking flowers from the garden for her teacher and was told she was stealing and the flowers taken from her.

Jennifer Burgess was about 78 and Ben about 84 then. Jennifer was bossy and very conscious of social position. She visited Marjorie once a week but not Helen. She was Marjorie's official next of kin.

Marjorie was a teacher and lived with her old school friend Betty who was a school inspector. Helen was Matron of a boys' school but gave it up to look after her mother. Helen then looked after Marjorie and Betty for a while but they didn't get on. The house was sold and they both bought other houses and rarely visited each other.
