Facts and Events
Mrs. J.J. Tayek Mrs. J.J. Tayek, nee Marjorie Burlingame, was born in North McGregor, Iowa, on Easter Sunday, April 7th, 1890, and nearly all of her life was spent in or near Froelich, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Jacob J. Tayek by Rev. Father Hogan on June 16th, 1908, and to this union three boys were born: Reuben, 15 years of age, Jacob Jr., who died in infancy, and Robert James, now four months of age, and for whom no doubt she gave her life. During her married life she suffered frequent illnesses and submitted to five serious operations, all necessary to save her life. On March 27, she was operated on at St. Luke's hospital in Chicago, and while the operation was extremely serious, for two days strong hopes were held for her recovery. The shock was too much for her however, and being weakened by the Caeserian operation of last November, she passed to her reward at 4:00 am March 29th. The remains were brought to the home of Anton Tayek at Monona and funeral services were held in St. Patrick's church, Rev. Father McNamara delivering a beautiful sermon outlining the christian life and sterling character of the deceased. The remains were laid to rest in St. Patrick's cemetery. Besides her two sons, she leaves to mourn her loss: her husband, who with her younger brother Alonzo, form the partnership of Burlingame & Tayek of Froelich, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Burlingame of Froelich, and her brother Ed, of the firm of Burlingame & Losch of Elkader...
