In 1840, Marion Francis Walker was born in White Horn, Tennessee, which is between Bulls Gap and Rogersville. On August 16, 1860, he married a girl named Penelope (last name unknown). She was born in 1846 and thus was 14 years old when she married Marion. On July 26, 1861, a daughter named Maryann was born.
On December 15, 1862, Marion joined the Union Army as a 2nd Lieutenant "to serve three years or during the war" and was assigned to Company D, 8th Regiment of the Tennessee Volunteers and sent to Camp Dick in Robinson, Kentucky.
On July 15, 1863, a son was born to Penelope named Marion Frank Walker. Six weeks later on August 31, 1863, Marion Walker died in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, "of a fever" at age 23. Frank Walker never knew his father. He was on his own at age 12.
