Marion was the Harvey family genealogist for many years. His work was meticulous and done before the computer age. He spent countless hours and traveled numerous miles in search of the family history. Marion served in the Army of the United States of America during World War II. Private 1st Class Marion D. Harvey, #35104021, was inducted at Fort Benjamin Harrison. His service dates were April 23, 1941 through April 21, 1945. He was discharged from Hospital, Fort Custer, Michigan. Marion served with Company B-10th Armored Infantry, 4th Armored Division, as a heavy machine gunner & combat infantryman. He saw action in the European campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, and Central Germany. He received the following Unit Decorations and Citations: The European-African-Middle East Ribbon, three Bronze Stars, The American Defense Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. His personal citation was for the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in Normandy on July 20, 1944. Marion was a long time member of the VFW Post #10807. Marion was married in 1949, and the proud father of three daughters. He and his family lived most of their lives in the Brownstown, Indiana area. Funeral services were held for Marion at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown, Indiana. Rev. Duane Loos officiated, and military services were held at the grave site. Image Gallery
