Obituary Mrs. Ernest (Marian E.) Gist
Mrs. Ernest (Marian E.) Gist of Harris, Iowa, a former Madison resident, died Saturday at her home after being ill for some time. She was 71.
Marian E. Bixby was born Nov 5, 1899 at LeMars, Iowa to Mrs. and Mrs. John Bixby. She attended Union Township School, LeMars. On Aug 14, 1919, she married Ernest C. Gist at LeMars. They came to Madison in 1925 and resided here until 1958. After retirement, they spent their winters in Phoenix, Ariz. and summers in Greene, Iowa. They later moved to Arnolds Park and then to the Golden Age apartments in Harris.
While living in Madison, Mrs. Gist was a member of United Methodist church, Madison Chapter 6, Order of Eastern Star, and the auxiliary to lake Post 2638, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors besides her widower are a son John D. (Jack) Gist, Madision; a daughter Mrs John (Jean) Hamilton, Britt Iowa; two sisters Mrs. Gordon (Dollie) Stokes, LeMars, and Mrs. J.G. (Len) Yeager, Topeka Kansas; granddaughters Mrs. A.P. (Jacque) Fuller of Chamberlain, Mrs. Forrest (Jerrilyn) Benz of Lamberton, Minnesota, Nancy Hamilton of Minneapolils and Laura and Colleen Hamilton, Britt, Iowa; a grandson Tim Hamilton, Britt, Iowa, a great-grandaughter Trisha Benz, and to great-grandsons Brook and Jason Fuller. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Levi Bixby.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mauer Funeral Chapel, Le Mars, and burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, LeMars.
