Maxwell SPENS-BLACK married 29apr1883 Marie Vivienne SHIELD in Timaru, New Zealand, according to the Timaru Herald. Marie was daughter of the late Ernest Macdonell, formerly Her Majesty’s Consul at Tunis and granddaughter of Count Armand de Sapinaud of Chateau La Barabinaire, Bastia, Corsica. Marie died 1934, aged 81; Maxwell and Marie had a son, Maxwell, known as Max (who died after 1970 in New Zealand), and 2 daughters (C. Spens Black). Marie Vivienne was daughter of Felicia, who was daughter of Count Amand de Sapinaud from Bastia, Corsica (jinformation from J. Tant). On Marie’s marriage certificate her father was named Ernest Macdowell (J. Tant).
