Martin married Marie D NIELSON 9may 1903 at Blythswood, Glasgow; he was then a wine merchant and she was a hotel waitress (R. Stephenson). Marie was born abt 1878 at Glasgow, daughter of Frank Dutruc Nielson and Jessie Johnston (R. Stephenson). Martin lived at one time at Auchenlie, Burnside, Rutherglen, and was killed in action during WW1 (family letters). In 1910 a Martin M. Bell (male adult) travelled by ship from Glasgow to Halifax, Canada; the same journey was made by M. Bell (female, aged 59), possibly Martin’s wife with age wrongly transcribed (ancestorsonboard website). According to 1911 census, Ontario, Canada, a Martin M. Bell and wife Marie lived there (ancestry.com). In 1911 Martin W. Bell (b. jan1874), wife Marie (b. apr1883) and a lodger lived at Toronto West, Ontario (automatedgenealogy.com).

Mary M. M. Newton nee Stephenson corresponded with Stuart McIntosh nee Bell (b. 1842) on 10dec1912 from 14 Murrayfield Gdns, Edinburgh, reporting on the illness of her daughter Moubray and the death of “Martin’s wife (poor thing, she had a hard life)”.
