Marie Florence Eliza Linney was born in Luton on 25th March 1912, daughter of Harriet Linney, formerly Toy, and her husband William John Linney, a bricklayer. She was the couple's only child together; both her parents had been married before and when Marie was born her father was 53 years old and her mother was just a week short of her 42nd birthday.

The family later moved away from Luton to Leicestershire, where Marie was married in the Barrow upon Soar district in 1934 to Walter Wright. Marie's father William died in 1937 in the Loughborough district, and her mother died in 1946 in the Melton Mowbray district.

Marie lived to be 81 years old and died in 1993 in Leicester.
