Mrs. Mariah P. Merchant, 111 Ottawa street died Monday morning after a short illness, aged 78 years. Mrs. Merchant was born October 3, 1844 at Geneva, New York, coming to Allegan, Mich., with her mother, at the age of eight years where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Josiah Merchant sixty three years ago. They moved to Mears, Michigan, where Mr. Merchant died thirteen years ago. Five years ago Mrs. Merchant came to Muskegon with her son, Charles A. Merchant. She leaves one son, Charles A. Merchant, of Muskegon, and two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Dusenberry of Hart, Mich., and Mrs. Ella Beacon of California. The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, in the chapel at the Balbirnie mortuary. The body will be taken to Mears for burial.
