    1:29:115, January 9, 1845.

At the residence of T. B. Stillman, in New York, on the 7th inst. of pulmonary phthisis, Mrs. Maria S. Wells, wife of Jason B. Wells, aged 24 years.
Mrs. Wells made a profession of faith in Christ at the early age of ten years, and during her subsequent life maintained a character in which the Christian graces were eminently combined. In her last illness, which was protracted and painful, she exhibited a cheerfulness and resignation which are pleasant to remember. The hour of her dissolution was welcome. As it approached, her spirit seemed to triumph over exhausted nature, and with many expressions of gratitude and affection, she commended those whom she had loved on earth to the care of Him who had been her portion. Then committing herself into the hands of a faithful Creator and gracious Redeemer, she fell asleep calmly and peacefully.
Her remains were taken to Plainfield, N. J., for interment, where a discourse was preached from a passage of Scripture which she had often repeated in her suffering, "The cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?"
