She can read and write. In Pioneers of Hopkins County Texas, Vol II p. 34-35 In 1854 Josiah Smith bought 160 acres of land from Richard R. Crook, assignee of Mararet Stewart's 640 acres, on the waters of White Oak, about 8 miles NW of Sulphur Springs. In 1855 his tax on 160 acres, valued at $160, White Oak, state tax was 24 cents and county tax was 12 cents. In 1856 the tax was the same. |
