- Named as "Margaret Clarke alias Radcliffe" in the baptismal record, this calls her (in Latin) "filia putatavi" (supposed child) of William Radcliffe of Mellor, gent and Katherine Clark. Later children are described (in the Latin records) as of William Radcliffe gent and Katherine his wife. Without corroboration, two interpretations are possible: Radcliffe married Clark, and the children are theirs; later children are with his original wife, also Katherine. As she would be in her 60s with the later children, I rule that out and conclude the first, concluding Katherine Thacker had died, if not by the time Margaret Radcliffe alias Clark was born, then by the time Mary Radcliffe was born in 1640.
