Facts and Events
Father Harley died when Lucile was only four and she went to live with Grandma Davis who enjoyed spoiling her. John thinks Lucile was an artist trapped on a farm by circumstance. She was a talented Poet, and very good at watercolors. Likely she believed she was marrying a gentleman farmer like her grandpa Eli Holaday seemed to be. She saw the romantic side of life with the practical. One Christmas grandma Smith received a 45rpm record player. She enjoyed listening to music in her kitchen so much while she worked. A personal story related to Marylou Anne Smith Davis by her grandmother Bessie Lee Davis Holaday Jenner. Story recorded September 27, 2003, submitted by Melissa Ann Davis: "Grandmother told me that when she was carrying Mother, she was reading a novel with a character in it named, "Lura." She liked the name so much that she named my mother, Lura Lucile Holaday. "Shortly after I married Bob Davis, social security cards had come out and my mother needed to get one. She did not have a birth certificate, so she called me to bring down her childhood Bible so she could take it to the application office to prove what her name was. It was not a family Bible with names and dates, just her personal book and on the flyleaf, was her name Lura Lucile Holaday. The officials believed her and issued the card. "Personally, I think she did not like the name Lura, because in later years, she told everyone that her name was Margaret Lucile." MRS.
