Information on Margaret Cathey

Margaret Cathey was born ca 1755/1765 per census analysis. Elijah Patton and wife Margaret, daughter of George-5355 were named in the 1823 court case. That case stated that both Elijah and wife were dead then and named two children as heirs instead: George Patton and Rebecca wife of John Logan. Some of their other children were also named, but mistakenly listed as George Catheys children instead of Margarets: Jane Adkins, Betsy Lusk and Mary Burgin.

Elijah Patton was born before 1755 (per 1800 census) and died between 1820 and 1823 in Burke, now McDowell, Co, NC. His wife Margaret Cathey was born ca 1755/65 (per 1800 and 1810 census) and died between 1810 and 1820 in Burke, now McDowell, Co, NC. They appear on the Burke Co, NC census in 1790, 1800, 1810 and 1820. There was another Elijah Patton very near by across the border in Rutherford Co, NC (also in the section that became McDowell County later). This other Elijah was younger, but his wife was also named Margaret. They were clearly two different couples though coincidently all four died in the 1820's.
