- 2 February 1858; Bedford Co., VA; Chancery Cause Final Decree: This 227 page suit was initiated in 1850 and involved the stipulations of the the will of William Woody, the husband of Margaret Brown Woody. These terms resulted in William's slaves and their increase becoming the property of his wife Margaret and, at her death, becoming the property the children of his daughter Elizabeth, the wife of James Brown. In this suit, the names of James & Elizabeth Woody Brown's six children are named. None of these children lived in Bedford Co., VA at the time of the suit. - 1832: Revolutionary Pension File of brother John Brown:
- And it was proven in open Court by the Oath of said James Coyle that said John Brown departed this life on the night of the 22nd December 1832 and that he left no widow nor children, but that he left the following brothers and sisters towit — David Brown, Betsy Jones, Mary Campbell, James Brown, Thomas Brown, Peggy Woody, Anna Reece & Jane Craigg.
