[edit] Disputed ParentageSome researchers believe that Margaret was a daughter of James Black (d. 1799, Bourbon County, Kentucky), but she was not named in James Black's will as a daughter. According to a newspaper article on the history of Bourbon County, Kentucky, Margaret Black Moore's father was a German Presbyterian who had anglicized his name of Swartz to Black. As of May 2000, Margaret's link to the family of James and Anne has not been absolutely proven to the preparer of this document. Her link is a distinct possibility but she is not listed in the will of James Black as an heir as are his sons, John, Alexander, and James. The marriage of James and Anna would indicate that James was from Scotland; however, during the early 1700's many German Presbyterians fled from their native land into Scotland (and Ireland). Later many of these families immigrated to America during the time of religious persecution in Scotland. [1] References
