Excerpted from the Citizen newspaper, Thursday, July 5, 1888 8:30 am Wednesday, July 4Marcus J. Fisher lost nearly all of the fingers on the right hand after lighting a huge Dynamite fire cracker. He is 30 years old and is a nephew of Mrs. Phoebe Fisher, Proprietor of Fishers Bakery and he is a driver in her employ. He had lit the fuse, but it did not go off. As he picked up the firecracker to relight it, it went off. Marcus lost the middle finger and thumb and the index finger to the first joint. George Fisher, his younger brother, was standing behind Marcus when the fire cracker went off. He received a cloud of flame and powder in his face. A piece of paper stuck him in the neck, making a deep and painful, though not necessarily serious wound.
