HURRICANE -- Mrs. Mamie Arbogast Spangler, 78, of 298 Ada Dale Avenue, Hurricane, died Feb. 27, 1989, in Putnam General Hospital after a short illness.

She was a member of Forest Burdette Memorial Methodist Church, Hurricane, and Eastern Star. She was formerly of South Charleston.

Surviving: husband, George R. Spangler; sons, George R. Jr. of. Sumter, S.C., James O. of Jackson, Ky.; daughters, Gertrude Graham of Hurricane, Phyllis Duvall of South Charleston; brothers, Roscoe Arbogast of South Charleston, Edward Arbogast of Bethany, Okla.; sisters, Ona Slack of Chesapeake, Amy Carter of Gloucester, Va., Marie Lalli of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with the Rev. Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.

George R. Spangler, 84, of Hurricane, formerly of South Charleston, died May 14, 1994, at Morris Memorial Nursing Home, Milton, after a long illness.

He was a retired Army captain, having served in World War II, and a retired engineer from Union Carbide Tech Center, South Charleston.

He was a member of Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, Hurricane.

He was a 50-year member of the Masons and a member of 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Bodies. He was an active Boy Scout leader.

Surviving: sons, George R. Jr. of Sumter, S.C., James O. of Richmond, Ky.; daughters, Gertrude Graham of Hurricane, Phyllis Duvall of South Charleston; brother, James of Danville, Va.; sister, Gertrude Hollingsworth of Eastman, Ga.; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
