He was a distinguished follower of Alexander III of Scotland and was conspicuous in expelling Haco." The Clan Gillean, Page 37, by Rev A MacLean Sinclair 1899 Tradition affirms that Malise, or Gillise, fought under Alexander III at the battle of Largs in 1263. It also asserts that he held some lands in Kintyre.
