According to the History of Stark County, Mahlon Sluts lived with his "Uncle James" after the death of his (Mahlon's) father. He lived in Tuscarawas County until he was 13 and then moved in with Uncle James to Sugarcreek Twp. After he married Rebecca, they lived for a few months in Holmes county, bought 130 acres in Sugar Creek, then moved to Carroll County, living there for 10 years on 2 different farms. 9/14/1848 they settled in Pike Twp., purchasing 75 acres at first, adding to that until they owned 323 acres.
The book also indicates that for the past 23 years, they have been Methodist. Previous to that they were United Brethren. He has been a Class Leader, Trustee and Steward and represented the Church Society at conference, and was a school director for 14 years.
