Death records from her tombstone indicate she was single when she died. She’d had a baby out of wedlock, I believe (because no father was listed on the tombstone and Mahala never married), who died at one day. Could that have been the reason she never married?

The 1880 census for MacArthur, Vinton Co., Ohio shows a 20 year old Mahala living in the household of Lemul Yoeman with his family. Also living in this house is a single man named H.S. Windsor, a 28 year sewing machine agent. Could he be the father of Mahala’s baby???

“Snook--In McArthur, July 25th, 1887, Mis Mahala B. Snook, aged 28 years, nine months and 28 days. Deceased came home to her mother’s in this place, from Cincinnati, about the first of the month and suffered a great deal during the last days of her sickness. The funeral took place on the 26th, Elder A. Maynard officiating. Peace to her remains.” July 28, 1887
