Descendant of Commander Joseph Charles Mauran, of Rhode Island. Daughter of Arthur Knight and Abby S. Howland, his wife. Granddaughter of Sylvester Rhodes Knight and Abby Whipple Mauran, his wife. Gr-granddaughter of Joshua Mauran and Abigail Winsor, his wife. Gr-gr-granddaughter of Joseph Charles Mauran and Olive Bicknell, his wife. Joseph Charles Mauran (1748-1813), who had served in the merchant marine, in 1776 was given command of the “Washington,” one of the vessels which comprised our in fant navy. He was born in Italy; died in Barrington, R. I. Also No. 1358.
