Berta,

It's great hearing from you, does that make us some kind of cousins? What state do you live in? I'm in Georgia. Here's grandma's obit.: Mae Baker (5th husband's last name, I don't know them all yet) Mrs. Mae Overmeyer Getzinger Baker, 67, of 4116 Lewis Ave.,died yesterday at St. Vincent's Hospital. (Toledo, OH) Born in Monroe, MI, Mrs. Baker had lived in Toledo 50 Years. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy M. Thompson, Toledo; sons, Joseph H., Matthew J., and Walter B. Getzinger; sisters, Mrs. Cora Whipple, Woodland Beach, MI; Mrs. Bertha Barton, Monroe, and Mrs. Lilliaan Vaughn, Hanover, MI; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The body will be in the Boyer Feilbach and Van Wormer West Toledo Mortuary after 4 p.m. today. Grandma passed away December 7, 1952, born February 14, 1887. If you look at # 62 in your information online, you will see that her father was Clarence Overmyer, mother Cora C. Crowder, daughter of Lewis and Prudence Crowder. My grandmother also had twin boys that died shortly after birth. This may be getting too long, so I will send another right after this. Betty Sept 6, 1999 email bobbryan@@mindspring.com __________

Berta, me again,

I will have to update this as I talk to more family members. Most all of them live in the north. Joseph Herbert Getzinger ( Uncle Herb) married Alma Children: Anna Mae and Mary Janet

Mathew James Getzinger (Uncle Matt) married twice. I think Reba first, then Irene. he had children by both. James died of Lukemia, some say it was found after a horse drawn milk cart ran over him. I will definitely check this out more. Jim was from the first marriage and Joanne..... Uncle Matt's children by his 2nd marriage to Irene were William James (Billy Jim), Paula, Jane (janey), Elizabeth Ann (Betty Ann my cousin) Getzinger.

Walter Bernard Getzinger married Frances Eolin Woolley; March 27, 1937 in Indiana somewhere. (orginally spelled Francis and changed later as they had my mother listed as a boy by mistake. Her sister Doris went with her in later Years to have it changed for social security) Children: Nicholas

                Ernest
                Daniel
                Elizabeth J.
                Walter

so far we are all alive, until I get permission, I can't give you private information on them. Of course, we multiplied. I will try my best to get further information for you. Will you need any documents to prove all this? I don't have any legal documents at this time, this is all information I know as real. My grandfather, Nicholas Goetzinger (not sure of first name or spelling yet) passed away when my father was approximately 14 months old. My grandmother on my Mom's side passed away when she was 14 Years old. I have some old photos I will try to scan at some date and I believe I have copies of some wills. That's all for now, my brain is worn out. Birthdates to follow later. HOW'S THAT? Betty __________ November 15, 1999 Betty Bryan

Berta, It's me again, and this time I can tell you who in the family I am. I am the g g g g g g granddaughter of John George Obermayer (he was born 1680 in Netzlinger, Anspach, Barvaria, Germany. My grandmother was May (she spelled Mae) Prudence Overmyer b. February 14, 1887 in Monroe, MI, d. December 7, 1952 in Toledo, Lucas CO OH. Now the new part for you to list if you so desire. She married Nicholas Goetzinger (spelling changed after marriage to Getzinger). I'm still working on his date of birth. My grandfather died when my Dad (Walter Bernard Getzinger) was approximately 14 months old. That means near the year 1922. Their children were: Joseph Herbert Getzinger, Matthew Getzinger, b. September 20, 1906 in Toledo OH, d. May 5, 1992 at the age of 85 Years in Edenville, MI, twins that died at birth, Dorthy Getzinger Thompson, and my father. A total of 6 children.

Joseph married Alma? (both deceased), and they had daughters Anna Mae, and Mary Janet. Living.

Matthew married had a daughter Joann and she m. Harvey Trombley of LaSalle, MI she predeceased him as did his son, James Getzinger, stories have it he was killed by a milk truck pulled by a horse in those days, and he had leukemia. Matthew also married Irene Dawson September 19, 1937, she died recently and had Alzheimer's. They had daughter Paula, m. Calvin Church; Jane m. Michael Mattison ; Elizabeth Ann m. Miller; William James m. Cheryl These children are still living.

Dorthy Getzinger m. Paul Thompson (both deceased now) had son, Bob Thompson, living; and Prudence Mae Thompson, Hoffman deceased now.

Walter Bernard Getzinger born in Toledo, Lucas CO OH, CO Lucas, 12/31/1919, d. January 29, 1985 In Maumee, OH. He married Frances Eolin Woolley Getzinger March 28, 1937. They had 5 children. Nicholas Bernard Getzinger 1938, Ernest Lee 1939, Daniel Gene 1940, Elizabeth Jean Getzinger Bryan 1943, and Walter James 1946 Getzinger.

I can fill in more information later as I find it. Mae Prudence Overmyer Getzinger was also married 5 times. Also George Scheurer b. June 15, 1876,

Baker, and Getzinger are the only ones I know so far. She had a temper

and wouldn't cut any slack if done wrong. Family story has it one of the husband's came home one night after carousing, he awoke her trying to get in the door and from the front bedroom upstairs ( became my room in later Years) Grandma threw out the last suitcase of his things and they landed on his head. She then went to bed ( I still have that bed) and went to sleep. If you are not bored, I can answer questions and add more later. Hope I didn't make you wait too long. May/Mae Prudence Overmyer b 1887 in MI, died in 1952 in Toledo, OH, her husband, Nicholas Bernard Goetzinger changed the name to Getzinger. Nicholas died when my father, Walter Bernard Getzinger (b 12/31/1919 1/29/1985) was 14 months old, so I think that to be 1921.

May was married 5 times and I haven't found all the husbands. I know George Scheur was one and the last one was Ernest? Baker. George was rooming with Grandma when the end came. George was 67 Years older than me by the day. I think that means he was born 1896. He went to live with his married sister, Grace for many Years to come. We called him Uncle and for a while he came to live in a trailer on our farm with us until, he needed more care and found it difficult to get in and out of the trailer, then to his sister's..

I went to see "Uncle"George the day of my wedding as he couldn't make the trip. He had been like a grandfather to me, we shared quite a few birthdays together.

When I was in my teenage Years, and feeling quite a cook. I made donuts. Poor Uncle George. I had no yeast and didn't think that would hurt and put in baking powder instead. He got hot coffee and tried dunking them a long time just to try to bite one. Once I took a bite, I knew why Uncle George had taken his teeth out and even tried to gum them! LOL He just didn't want me to know he didn't think I had tried very hard. Hard was the correct word of the day, those donuts were hard as Nuts in a walnut shell. After Uncle George went back to the trailer, we threw the rest out. No one wanted them and he had tried so hard not to break my heart.

Received September 2002 One year for a 4th of July Parade in the small town of GA from where I recently moved, I started a parade to help my girls 'fit in' the neighborhood. As we were actively involved in Brownie's and Scouts, that is what got me started on the parade. Anyway, I dressed one like Betsy Ross and the other wore her Scout uniform. 2 flags were made mostly by them and me as "straw boss", one of a current flag for the Girl Scout to stand beside and another of the 13 Colonies for Betsy Ross. These flags were made with chicken wire and flowers they made with colored tissue or whatever. Would have to find the picture to tell for sure. That was so long ago. I think I have even given one of them the pictures. They won 2nd place trophy. They were so excited.

No I didn't do the selecting, I had ministers, and Priest from all denominations to do the Judging. Let someone tell them they were unfair. All floats were numbered so no names were given either.

Thanks for reminding me of a great memory. I ran that parade for 4 Years, it finally got too large for me to do alone.

I am a member of Order of Eastern Star and used to be quite active there too (went in under my Father). My husband being a Shriner, once Mason of the year for our work with children I think. I got really active there too, loving helping and doing.

I regret I won't be as much help to DAR should I be accepted since my brain injury, but my thoughts will be. Maybe some of my crafty things could help in some way.

Last float I assisted was one in a Christmas Parade. I made ribbon roses enough for Santa's house complete with chimney, windows, doors, all with different colors to meet the need. I heard the radio announcer make the comment "All the flowers on the float were made by one OLE lady in a wheelchair". That really cracked us all up. I designed the whole thing for the Masons and they did all the work of putting it together. What fun.

I know my Grandmother (maiden name Overmyer) was quite crafty too. I now have finally taken the time to make nylon floral corsages as she did. Mine she made me was lost many many Years ago in a move south. I had studies that thing so much, I finally sat down to try it myself. I entered it in the CO fair here. It won me Best of Show and a top trophy too for the Division of Crafts. I keep promising to get with the program and do more, but have since found genealogy to be my new hobby. I love to pursue new things.

My grandmother used to take real nylons once they had a run in them, took out the color and dyed them the color she wanted. She would use the (you may be too young to remember) gold wire from holding the cap on the quarts of milk delivered, to form the shape of the flower. She even used the nylon to make the leaves too.

I cheat, I buy the nylon in color and wire from the store, but still the beauty and so delicate.

Ok, enough already, I do get carried away at times.

Thanks Cuz, Betty Bryan eolin@@mindspring.com[overmyer2.ged]
