Mabel Mae Eggers Clupper, 102, of Manteo, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Born in the mountains of Tennessee on December 20, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Martin Eggers and Allie Williams Eggers.
Mabel graduated high school in Lockland, Ohio and soon after met her devoted husband of 62 years, Henry James Clupper. Mabel and Henry lived in Marion, Indiana and Miami, Florida before settling in Raleigh, North Carolina.
In Raleigh, Mabel volunteered often and was an active member of Millbrook United Methodist Church. She retired from the State of North Carolina as an employee with the Employment Security Commission. After moving to Manteo in 1997, she attended Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and the Dare County Center Nutrition program.
Mabel enjoyed life to the fullest, brightening the lives of her family members, many friends and caregivers with her infectious laughter, quick humor and kind heart. With a welcoming smile and sparkling blue eyes, she was a friend to all.
Mabel is survived by her daughter and best friend, Donna Kay Hazzard of Hammondsville, OH; her beloved son, Dennis Michael Clupper and wife Connie J. Clupper of Manteo, NC. She is also survived by four granddaughters who lovingly called her Granny: Beth Friedman of Atlanta, GA, Christina Costarella (Adam) of Ohio, Chelsea Tillett (Wade) of Kitty Hawk, NC and Allie Clupper of Manteo, NC. Granny will also be fondly remembered by her eight great-grandchildren, Anthony, Mellicent and Dominique Costarella; Kalman Friedman; and Mason, Avery, Sawyer and Merritt Tillett. Mabel's greatest love was family and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, James Martin Clupper; her son-in-law Thomas Hazzard; her grandson Thomas James Hazzard, and four siblings, Nina Gutkin, Edith Maude Batson, Helen Lucille Miller and Donald William "Don" Eggers.
A celebration of Mabel's life will be held on April 21, 2018 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. John Dutton officiating and reception following. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Dare County Home Health or Dare County Center Nutrition Services. Special thank you to Mabel's caregivers for their attentive and loving care and to the wonderfully compassionate staff at Peak Resources in Nags Head, NC.
