Lyle Reed Nesselroad, age 86, of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn with Rev. John Reynolds, Jr. and Rev. Brad Braley officiating. Burial with military honors at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, May 30, 2011 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to the First Presbyterian Church, BGM Schools or Brooklyn Community Estate.

Lyle is survived by his son Neal of Des Moines; his daughter Nancee Cook (Jon) of Decorah; a son-in-law Reed Wykhuis (Carol) of Oostburg, WI; six grandchildren, Emily Smith (Kevin) of Sterling, VA, Grant Cook of Iowa City, Peter Wykhuis of New York City, Joe Wykhuis of Madison, WI, Brooke Cheek of Ankeny and Rachel Nesselroad of Ankeny. Also surviving are a sister, Mary Lou Hesse of Des Moines, a sister-in-law Marcia Braley of Brooklyn, and two brothers-in-law, Lowell Sherwood (Anedra) of Brooklyn and Scott Sherwood (Jeanne) of Davenport.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Dode and Zola Reed Nesselroad, his wife Barbara in 2002, a daughter Nicole, a half-sister, Joyce Leib, his stepmother Lorna Nesselroad, and two brothers-in-law, Byard Braley and Bud Hesse.

Lyle Reed Nesselroad was born July 18, 1924 in rural Panora, Iowa, the son of Dode and Zola Reed Nesselroad. He graduated from Panora High School in 1942 and attended Drake University in Des Moines. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. Lyle married Barbara Sherwood on August 20, 1950 at the Malcom Presbyterian Church in Malcom, IA. Lyle was a member of the Brooklyn business community, operating Nesselroad Chevrolet Company for sixty years. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, a member of Kiwanis, the Brooklyn American Legion Post #294, and the Masonic Corinthian Lodge #174 A.F. & A.M. Lyle enjoyed coaching Little League baseball, playing golf and family vacations. He also enjoyed working with Steve Wright at the dealership.
