(IV) John, son of Aaron Hackney, was born March 2, 1783, and died December 1809, and is buried in the Sandy Hill cemetery, Menallen township, Fayette county, Pennsylvania. John Hackney was married to Lydia Sidwell, an only child of James and Amy (Long) Sidwell, Quakers, of English ancestry, who came to America about 1700, locating in Virginia, thence to Pennsylvania. James and Amy Sidwell located on what is now (1912) known as the Shamrock Coke Works farm, in 1795. John Hackney was born in Luzerne township, and lived on the homestead farm until his marriage with Lydia Sidwell, when he moved to the Sidwell farm, in Menallen township, but retained his Luzerne township property until his death. He was, like h1s ancestors, a strict Quaker, a prosperous farmer, and an upright man. The clean upright life of this Quaker gentleman was a grand legacy to his descendants. John and Lydia (Sidwell) Hackney had seven children who reached maturity, viz.: James, Aaron, Amy, John, Hiram Hamilton, Samuel and Hannah.
