Mrs. Lydia A. Purnell Dies at Dallas Home.
Funeral will be held at residence of sister-in-law this afternoon.
Mrs. Lydia A. Purnell, wife of G. W. Purnell, died yesterday morning at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. S. T. Morgan, 2805 Worth street. Funeral service will be held at the residence at 2 o'clock this afternoon, the Rev. Harry T. Moore officiating. The burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Mrs. Purnell was the daughter of General A. E. Carter, a large sugar planter of East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, and a man prominent in public affairs. She was connected with some of the oldest and most influential families of the South, being a cousin of Mrs. Jefferson Davis, and a great-granddaughter of Major Richard Howell, who fought in the Revolutionary War, and who was Governor of New Jersey for eight consecutive terms.
Mrs. Purnell lived most of her life in the old plantation home in Louisiana coming to Dallas four years ago with her husband to make Dallas their home. She is survived by her husband George W. Purnell Sr., and the following children : Howell Morgan of Baton Rouge, La., and George W. Purnell Jr., Mrs. Cecil Simpson and Mrs. W. F. Hagaman of Dallas.
