George W. Purnell, 90, a Confederate veteran, died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cecil L. Simpson. He served with the First Louisiana Cavalry during the Civil War.
Formerly a cotton planter in Louisiana, Mr. Purnell retired twenty-five years ago and came to Dallas.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. W. F. Hagaman, New Orleans, and Mrs. Simpson; a son, George W. Purnell, Jr., Dallas; a stepson Howell Morgan, Shreveport; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
