ROCKDALE - Luther C. Moore, 84, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, in Austin. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Pipes of Meadowbrook Baptist Church and the Rev. Calvin Springer officiating.

Mr. Moore was born April 23, 1918, in Hoover to William and Rosa Southern Moore. After graduating from Tulia High School in Tulia, Luther enrolled at West Texas State Teachers College in 1938 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1941. While in his senior year, he registered for the military draft for World War II and eventually served with the Army Air Corps from October 1942 to January 1946, in the European Theater on the Ascension Islands.

After his discharge, he worked five years as a chemist but during this time, he attended night school to learn to be an electrician. Luther worked as a union electrician for 34 years and was a member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 50 years.

Luther made his home in Amarillo from 1950 to 1971 and later moved to Rockdale, where he met and married Bernice Jackson Caffey on March 12, 1998, in Rockdale. Luther was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church and Thorndale VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Lynn Wolfe; three brothers; five sisters; three half-sisters; and a half-brother.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark L. Moore and wife, Rogena, and David J. Moore and wife, Danna, all of Amarillo; a stepson, Kenneth Caffey and wife, Judy, of Deer Park; a step daughter-in-law, Dana Caffey of Bryan; two brothers-in-law, Adrian Bates of Happy and Bobby Caffey and wife, Betty, of Thorndale; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Moore of Portland, Ore., and Alta Raye Caffey and husband, Buck, of Rockdale; three grandchildren; many step grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers include Ronald Montgomery, Robert Moore, Bobby Caffey, Clifford Bartlett, John Ballard, Ronnie Burrough and Bob Melcher.
