Luella Jean Mitchell of Brussels passed away at Victoria Hospital, London on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999. She was in her 77th year.
Born in Brussels on Oct 26, 1923, Miss Mitchell was the daughter of the late Percy and Annie (Dickson) Mitchell.
Luella was a very dedicated teacher who was loved by her many pupils. She began her teaching career at Anderson's School in Morris Twp., then Kincardine and Atwood, before returning to Brussels to complete 37 years with her loved profession.
For many years as a young girl, Luella worked in the Brussels 5 cent to $1 store which was started in 1935 by her two aunts. After retiring from teaching, she worked at the store full time helping her cousin Jack with the business.
She was very active within her church, beginning as a teenager teaching Sunday School and continuing in later life by singing in the choir until these past few months when her health began to fail. This past year Luella was made a life member of the UCW, having been a willing hard worker for many years. She was always there to lend a hand whenever she saw the need.
She will be sadly missed by her dear sister Helen Mitchell of Caressant Care in Listowel, dear cousins, Emerson Mitchell and his wife Phyllis of Walton, Mrs. Lillian Beer of Hensall and there families as well as several cousins in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. She was also loved by her many friends and former pupils.
Luella was predeceased by her cousin Jack Mitchell.
Friends were received by the family from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels.
