[edit] ObituaryLUELLA MARTIN YARNELL, age 86, of Lewis Center, Orange Township historian and community matron passed away at home Thursday, January 14, 2016 surrounded by those whom she loved. Born May 27, 1929 at the family home in Westerville, the only child of the late E. Stanley and Evadell (Grove) Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carroll F. Yarnell Jr. in 2014, eldest son, Alan C. Yarnell and cousin Letha Annette. She graduated from Orange Township School in 1948 and Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University) in 1952 with a degree in education. She taught in the Olentangy Local Schools until her retirement in 1986. From her experience in education, Luella was direct in nature and championed the underdog. She was active in the Orange School Alumni Association. She was instrumental in the organization of the Delaware County Council for Older Adults now SourcePoint. In 2012 she was recognized for her 20 years of service to the organization including serving as president from 1994-95. She and Carroll also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She enjoyed a passion for family history and the history of Orange Township, authoring an antiquity of the township. Her other interests included sewing, flower gardening, travel, crafts, and attending auctions in search of treasures. Luella was happiest at whatever she set her mind to. Simply put she made a difference in the lives of her family, students, and countless friends. Those left to cherish her memory include children Elmer G. (Gena) Yarnell, Becky A.(Richard) Creighton, Kenneth P. Yarnell (Peg Lowry), grandchildren Joseph (Carla) Yarnell, Daniel (Tracy) Yarnell, Matt (Meghan) Yarnell, Carroll (Sarah) Creighton, Zachary (Kristen) Creighton, Katie (Tim) DeSloover, Alex Yarnell (Abby Kennedy), Justin (Stacy) Yarnell, Brandon Yarnell, Taryn (Adam) Yarnell-Stillwell, 14 great-grandchildren, and many friends. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Monday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday with Rev. Robert Lust officiating. Burial will follow in Africa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to SourcePoint, 800 Cheshire Road, Delaware, Ohio, 43015. References
