Mrs. David H. Maitland of Genoa, former well known and esteemed Sycamore resident, passed away at 9 o'clock Monday morning at the Glidden Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient, since Wednesday of last week. She was afflicted with a heart ailment.

Luella Adelia Gardner was the daughter of Andrew and Mary Black Gardner and was born on July 8, 1875, at Longton, Lynn County, Kansas. When she was but four years of age, her father, died, and she and her mother and the other four children came to Sycamore to make their home. She attended the local schools, growing to young womanhood there. On October 15, 1890, she was married to David H. Maitlands (sic) at Sycamore. Most of their married life was spent in Sycamore, with the exception of a few years, when they moved to Klemme, Ia., and were engaged in farming there. They returned to Sycamore and remained here, until Mr. Maitland retired, about 12 years ago, then moved to Genoa, where the home has since been made.

Mrs. Maitland's life was beautifully and fully lived. She was a faithful member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Sycamore. Her admirable traits of character acquired many friends for her.

Surviving also are two sisters, Mrs. Richard Cook and Mrs. Arthur Robinson, both of Sycamore, three brothers, Jesse Gardner of this city, Raymond of Maple Park and Floyd Winans of Los Angeles, Calif., also five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A brother, James, preceded her in death.
