Final services are to be conducted this Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clockfrom the Van Natta Funeral Home at Sycamore for David Maitland, 92, ofBeloit, Wis., a former resident of Sycamore for many years, who passedaway Wednesday morning at a rest home in Janesville, Wis., where he hadbeen cared for the past year. The elderly gentleman had been in failinghealth for some time.
Reverend H. L. Michael of the Federated Church will officiate at thefinal rites and burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery. Friends maycall at the local funeral home until time of services.
Mr. Maitland was born March 13, 1863 in Ontario, Canada, the son ofJames and Sarah Maitland. When but a small lad he moved with his familyto Sycamore. On October 12, 1890, he married Luella Gardner ofSycamore. They farmed for a number of years in this area, and he alsodid teaming here. Mrs. Maitland died in 1949. For a number of years hehad resided in Beloit, Wis., with his son, Henry Maitland. He was thelast living member of a family of sixteen children.
Surviving his death are his son, Henry, with whom he resided at Beloit,Wis., and two daughters, Mrs. Rufus Haefner of DeKalb and Mrs. WilliamTrafford of Belmont, Iowa, also several nephews and nieces in theSycamore area.

Mrs. David H. Maitland of Genoa, former well known and esteemed Sycamoreresident, passed away at 9 o'clock Monday morning at the GliddenMemorial Hospital, where she had been a patient, since Wednesday of lastweek. She was afflicted with a heart ailment.
Luella Adelia Gardner was the daughter of Andrew and Mary Black Gardnerand was born on July 8, 1875, at Longton, Lynn, Kansas. When shewas but four years of age, her father, died, and she and her mother andthe other four children came to Sycamore to make their home. Sheattended the local schools, growing to young womanhood there. On October15, 1890, she was married to David H. Maitlands (sic) at Sycamore. Mostof their married life was spent in Sycamore, with the exception of a fewyears, when they moved to Klemme, Ia., and were engaged in farmingthere. They returned to Sycamore and remained here, until Mr. Maitlandretired, about 12 years ago, then moved to Genoa, where the home hassince been made.
Mrs. Maitland's life was beautifully and fully lived. She was afaithful member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Sycamore.Her admirable traits of character acquired many friends for her.
Surviving her demise are her husband and three children, Mrs. JennieTrafford of Belmond, Iowa, Henry Maitland of Beloit. Wis., and Mrs.Helen Haefner of DeKalb. Surviving also are two sisters, Mrs. RichardCook and Mrs. Arthur Robinson, both of Sycamore, three brothers, JesseGardner of this city, Raymond of Maple Park and Floyd Winans of LosAngeles, Calif., also five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.A brother, James, preceded her in death.
Funeral rites are to be conducted Wednesday afternoon at the KebilFuneral Home at 2 o'clock. It will be a Christian Science service,burial taking place in the Elmwood cemetery.
