Marie (first wife) was actually a first cousin.

Ludwig had been in the German Calvary. Worked as a veterinarian and (homeopathy) doctor.

They left for Canada soon after his father's death. Ludwig and Marie left Prussia in June 1878 on the ship 'Frisia' under Capt. Meyer. The ship sailed from Hamburg, Germany and landed in New York. The ship was owned by the Hamburg America Line and made this run from August 21, 1872 until September 13, 1885.

They made their way to Canada. First settled in Rockingham, Renfrew County, ON and moved to Waterloo, ON around 1881/82.

Ludwig moved to Killaloe in 1885, after Marie (first wife) died.
