"Final Rites for Mrs. J. A. Wilkerson Held on Friday - In the sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. J. A. Wilkerson Jr. early Thursday morning of last week, Rockwall lost a life-long and well-known citizen. Mrs. Wilkerson, the former Lucy Zollner, passed away in a Terrell hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were conducted from the First Presbyterian Church Friday at 2 p.m. with the pastor, Dr. James L. Glenn, officiating. Survivors include her husband, J. A. Wilkerson of Rockwall; brothers, Henry Zollner of Rockwall, Mathew Zollner of Oklahoma City and a sister, Mrs. Claude Isbell of Austin. A daughter, Mary Jane, who passed away in infancy in 1929, preceded her in death. Pallbearers were W. H. (Jay) Andrew, Alfred Hartman, Johnnie Parrigan, Raymond Cameron, Bill Harris, W. O. Farmer, George Prichard and N. O. Wright. Interment was held in the Rockwall cemetery with the Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Wilkerson was the daughter of Matthias and Barbara Zollner, a pioneer faming and ranching family of Rockwall County. Her father started the famous Zollner Ranch southest of her which is still in operation. Mrs. Wilkerson was a woman of many talents and her interest was evident in church work, civic circles and in past years she was in the mercantile business here. She was a Sunday school teacher in the Presbyterian church and done valuable work in organizing the Girl Scout movement in Rockwall. Mrs. Wilkerson attended school here and was a graduate of the old Wells College. Later she attended Trinity University. Also, she was student of violin and voice. She was a charge member of the Business Women's League here and was a member of the building committee when the present Presbyterian church was erected in 1929. She had served as Christian Educational Secretary for the Dallas Presbytery thus lending her service to 28 churches of the area. Source: Rockwall Success of 4 March 1955."
