he came to America in 1847 - as he traveled on the HARVEST with four children - but no wife.

The HARVEST brought them into Baltimore on 27 Apr 1847 The passenger list shows: ESKES Lucas Age 52 Male ESKES BG Age 20 Female ESKES AJ Age 18 Male (Albert Jan) ESKES HA Age 12 Female ESKES HP Age 10 Female

From that - it would appear that the three oldest children are from his first wife - but the 4th child would have to have been from his second wife.
