The funeral Mass for Louise A. Heydon will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with the Rev. Timothy T. Reker officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Chatfield. Mrs. Heydon, 87, of Rochester, died Thursday (May 28, 2009) at Samaritan Bethany Heights.
Louise Ann Duane was born Jan. 13, 1922, in rural Lewiston. Following high school, she attended Normal School in St. Charles and later graduated from Winona Teachers College. She then taught in
several one-room schoolhouses and eventually retired from St. Francis Catholic School in 1985. She taught for a total of 40 years, including 16 at St. Francis.
On June 23, 1951, she married Morris L. Heydon in Lewiston; he died Jan. 28, 1979. At the time of his death, Mr. Heydon was data processing manager for Olmsted County.
Mrs. Heydon volunteered at the Community Clothesline, Assisi Heights, and Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth. She was a Franciscan co-journer and member of the Serra Club, as well as a longtime choir member and organist at St. Francis Catholic Church. She also belonged to the St. Jude's prayer group and St. Gertrude's Rosary group.
She is survived by five children, Mary (David) Balow of Leland, N.C., John (Patricia) Heydon of Owatonna, James (Pat) Heydon, Ann Heydon (John Jilk) and Joseph Heydon, all of Rochester; eight
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Macken Funeral
Home, and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 8 p.m. Monday, during the visitation. The family prefers memorials to St. Francis Catholic Church.
