Lacatell PITTSFIELD -- Richard Franklin Lacatell, 85, of EPOCH Assisted Living, 140 Melbourne Road, died Monday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where he was admitted two weeks ago.

Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 18, 1919, son of Louis R. and Lois I. Sweener Lacatell, he was a 1937 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He had previously lived in Hingham and South Chatham.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater with an amphibian battalion of the Army Corps of Engineers.

Mr. Lacatell was employed as an internal auditor and computer analyst by the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1972.

A member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Harwich, he had been vice president and a board member of Sight Loss Services Inc. of West Dennis, and had received the award for outstanding volunteer service in 1995.

His wife, the former Dorothy L. Rathbun, whom he married Jan. 1, 1940, died Nov. 18, 1996.

He leaves two sons, Richard E. Lacatell of Dalton and David A. Lacatell of Hanover; a sister, Barbara L. Smith of Pittsfield, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A son, Thomas A. Lacatell, died in 199


FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Mr. Richard F. Lacatell will be Thursday beginning at 3 p.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, Mass. A Service of Remembrance will follow visiting hours at 4:30 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Ross E. Lilly of Cheshire, Conn., officiating. A private burial service will be held Friday, March 19, in Pittsfield Cemetery. Among survivors are his daughters-in-law Joyce of Dalton and Kate of Hanover; his brother-in-law, Daniel of Pittsfield; his grandchildren, Karen J. Danforth, Jeffrey R. Lacatell, Andrew D. Lacatell, and Marc W. Lacatell; great-grandchildren, Christopher J. Danforth, Abigail D. Danforth, Noah D. Lacatell and Sophia G. Lacatell. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Parkinson Disease Research Fund in care of the funeral home.
