- ↑ "Louis R. Krumm is a veteran of the world war, and a representativecitizen of Columbus, where he was born June 15, 1880. He is the son ofCharles F. and Lena (Bock) Krumm. A complete sketch of Charles F. Krummappears elsewhere in this history. Louis R., was educated in the publicschools of Columbus and following his graduation from Central highschool he entered Ohio State University, from which he received thedegree of electrical engineer in 1899. For the next six years he wasidentified with electrical telephone engineering, after which he spentsix years with the war department of United States government. He wasappointed chief radio inspector, Department of Commerce, and held thatoffice until 1917, at which time he was commissioned as a captain in theU.S. Army Signal Corps. He was later promoted to the rank of major inthe regular army, and finally was made lieutenant colonel. He served inFrance for 18 months during the World War as a member of the staff ofthe chief signal officer of the American Expeditionary Forces, in chargeof radio operations, and at times served with the French and Englisharmies. He resigned from the service July 1, 1919, and at that timebecame associated with the Westinghouse Electric Company in New YorkCity. He built the first radio broadcasting station in the UnitedStates. In 1922 Mr. Krumm returned to Columbus to take charge of theradio department of Erner and Hopkins, and was identified with thatconcern until January, 1927. He has sent served as factoryrepresentative and manufacturers agent for numerous radio companies. Hehas offices at 60 East Broad Street. Mr. Krumm is a Republican, amember of the Presbyterian Church, and is affiliated with Goodale Lodge,No. 372, free and Excepted Masons. He is unmarried and lives at theColumbus Athletic Club. He also belongs to the American Legion. As areward for his services during the World War, Mr. Krumm received theLegion of Honor metal and the American Distinguished Service Cross."

- ↑ "Lt. Col. Lewis R. Krumm, 73, of Biloxi, Mississippi, a former vicepresident of the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Co., diedFriday in Biloxi Veterans Hospital. A former resident of Columbus, hemoved to Mississippi two years ago. A pioneer in radio engineering, hewas responsible for establishing the first commercial radio broadcastingstation in the United States. Active in the heating and ventilatingfield, he was president of the L. R. Krumm Company, Columbus. He wasgraduated from the electrical engineering College of Ohio StateUniversity in 1898. Entering the U.S. Army in April, 1917, he servedtwo years in France during World War I on the staff of the Chief SignalOfficer,AEF. He held the Distinguished Service Cross and the FrenchLegion of Honor. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virginia O'Neil Krumm,Biloxi; Nice, Mrs. Virginia Riegel, Madison, Wisconsin, and threenephews, Lt. Col. Tahlman Krumm, Washington D.C.; Wilbur Krumm,Columbus, and Ralph Krumm, Canton, Ohio. Service will be at 11 AMTuesday in the Schoedinger state Street Chapel where friends may callfrom 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM Monday. Burial will be in Green LawnCemetery." Note: the tombstone provided by the government is engraved"Major" not Lt.Col.. A Major is one rank below Lt. Col. and namespelling on tombstone is LOUIS
