Lorris P. Sandvol 1912-1997 Lorris P. Sandvol was born April 9, 1912 the son of Joseph and Clara (Johnson) Sandvol at McHenry, N.D. He moved with his family to the Grace City area in 1914. He lived in Cherry Lake Twp., Eddy County north of Grace City for a time. On December 1, 1933 he was united in marriage to Bessie J. Flatters at Carrington, N.D. He worked for the Great Northern Railroad for a time, during WWII he worked in the apple orchards in Wenatchee, Washington area, and Boeing Aircraft Co. at Seattle. When they returned to the Grace City area he worked for Archie Campbell Construction Co. of New Rockford and for Roy Topp's International Harvester Co. at Grace City. He operated his own repair shop in Grace City until his retirement in 1982. He was a avid outdoors man, enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and woodcarving birds and ducks. He had many friends. He was a member of the Carrington Sons of Norway, Central Dakota Steam Thrashers Assn. of New Rockford and the United Methodist Church of Grace City. Mr. Sandvol died Saturday, June 14, 1997 at the Golden Acres Manor nursing home at Carrington at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife Bessie of Grace City, two daughters: Verdus Bell (Robert) Broschat, Brookings, S.D.; Laurel Lee (Bryce) Nelson, Marietta, Minn.; seven grandchildren: Larrie Nelson, Sherrie (Craig) Clausnitzer, Michelle (Kevin) Ellefson, Robin (Guilford) Latham, Roxanne (Barry) Schulz, Tad Broschat,Todd Broschat; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Sandvol and one sister, Leatha Cartwright, both of The Dalles, Ore., many nieces and nephews.
