remembered by Jessie Budge: "When a very small boy I was a member of the Paris fife and drum band conducted by L.T. Shepherd and later for three or four years I played successively 3rd, 2nd, and then 1st cornet in the Paris brass band conducted by Joseph R. Shepherd. . . When my voice had changed, I became a member of the Bear Lake Stake choir, conducted by W. N. B. Shepherd. . . and later by Joseph R. Shepherd."
